About the Chaplaincy Program through Living Free Institute 

Living Free Institute, in collaboration with the Association of Christian Alcohol & Drug Counselors (ACADC), offers a unique opportunity for those called to chaplaincy to receive training and certification rooted in biblical truth and practical ministry experience. Chaplains are increasingly needed across a wide range of environments—recovery centers, correctional facilities, hospitals, hospice care, law enforcement, and crisis response teams. Our world needs compassionate, Spirit-led individuals who are equipped to bring hope, healing, and the message of Jesus into spaces marked by pain and uncertainty.

Licensed Chaplains

This certification is open to those beginning their chaplaincy journey. Graduates will be prepared to serve in ministry-related chaplaincy roles, offering spiritual care and support in settings such as hospitals, recovery centers, and convalescent homes.

Requirements:

  • Completion and passing of the CSAC1 exam
  • Tuition: $790 (or $395 for current CSAC1 credential holders)
  • Reading: The Work of the Chaplain by Naomi K. Paget and Janet McCormick
  • Passing the ACADC chaplaincy exam
  • A pastoral reference attesting to character and spiritual maturity
  • A reference letter from the leader of a ministry or charitable organization where you have been involved for a minimum of two years
  • Completion of 40 hours of internship as a chaplain-in-training (can be served in a current ministry setting or a qualified organization)
  • Agreement to and signing of the ACADC Code of EthicsOptional: A chaplaincy badge is available for an additional $250.

Licensed Clinical Chaplai

This advanced certification is ideal for those with previous counseling training or a professional credential (such as CDAAC or other healthcare certifications) who want to expand their ministry into clinical and spiritually integrated care.

Requirements:

  • Completion and passing of the CSAC1 exam
  • Tuition: $790 (or $395 for current CDAAC or CSAC1 credential holders) Fulfillment of the 315-hour
  • CDAAC academic requirement (including 45 hours of supervised practicum) or another qualifying healthcare license
  • Reading: The Work of the Chaplain by Naomi K. Paget and Janet McCormick
  • Passing the ACADC chaplaincy exam
  • Pastoral and ministry leadership references as noted above
  • Completion of 40 hours of chaplain internship Signed agreement to the ACADC Code of Ethics
  • Optional: A Clinical Chaplain badge is available for an additional $250.
